Checks
When a Character takes an action that could succeed or fail, the Storyteller will call for a check.
- Describe the action you want your character to attempt.
- The storyteller sets a Difficulty.
- Choose an appropriate Skill. If you don’t have one, use your most apt Attribute.
- Roll a number of dice equal to your Skill level. Roll The Event Die if directed to.
- Everyone is given an opportunity to Oppose the check.
- The storyteller describes the Outcome.

athletics skill of 5, Sam would say “I want to jump across the river.” The storyteller tells him “that will behardbecause the rain made the ground muddy and your footing is bad.” When Sam rolls, he gets2,2,3,5,6which is apartial success. The storyteller says “you get across the river okay but you splash your pants with mud as you land.”
Safety Systems
Safety
I will discuss two safety systems for dealing with sensitive subjects in this game. They are for everyone—Players and Storyteller both. Lines and Veils is a preventative system while the X-Card System is reactive. You can find more safety tools here: https://bit.ly/ttrpgsafetytoolkit
